Dynamic load tree stability testing

Using the Fakopp DynaTree & DynaRoot systems that assess tree stability and stem strength by measuring local wind speeds with an anemometer and tree reaction during those winds using an inclinometer & elastometer. The data is then analysed to compute a safety factor for the trees. The testing requires wind speeds in excess of 15mph with information gathered over several hours. The gathered data can be used to determine tree stability in storm force winds and provide an accurate safety factor.

IML-RESI PD-500 resistograph

This is used to detect and assess the extent of internal decay. The microdrill measures the resistance of the wood to a depth of 500mm; a constant pressure is applied and reaction to both drill feed (compressive strength) and drill speed (torsional strength) measured, with recorded data shown as a digital graph.

Microsecond Timer

This is designed to measure stress wave propagation time in trees. The signal is generated by a hammer tap on the start sensor and the unit displays the measured propagation time. By measuring the distance between the two sensors, velocity can be calculated which can be used to detect hidden decayed parts or cavities between the two sensors.
